Fat Souls and Failures

When Isaiah spoke to the Lord about his responsibility as a prophet called from the womb he expressed his sadness in not being able to accomplish what the Lord had asked of him. The Lord told Isaiah to bring Israel back to Him.

Upon reflecting about the state of Israel Isaiah expressed disappointment in himself for not succeeding in what the Lord required of him, for at the time Israel was still falling farther into apostasy. However the outcome, the Lord was still pleased with Isaiah’s service and expressed his blessing, glory, and salvation that were to come.

Furthermore, The Lord gave the bigger picture to Isaiah, that the tribes of Israel were the “easy” part and that all the gentiles would be brought to the light and truth as well. (1 Nephi 21: 1-6)

As we look at verse 3 in a different light, perhaps Isaiah felt that he hadn’t done all that he could have to do his part in the spiritual work that he had to do. Being that he said, I have worked in “vain” meaning that he had “failed” according to his own perspective and perhaps he hadn’t put as much effort forward as he thought he would, could, or should have. Perhaps putting temporal things in 1st place on occasion. (Isaiah 55: 1+2)

This is speculation, and The Lord quickly lets Isaiah know that he is pleased with the service he has given so far and that there is more where that came from!
